Founded in the Missouri countryside in 1982, Robert Nissenbaum was one
of two partners in the early days of the company. Over the past 20
years, through lots of growth and change, Imagine Foods has steadfastly
maintained its commitment to making the highest quality, most delicious
all-natural foods. Here are other brief insights regarding Robert’s
background and our history.
In 1971, when he was just 20, Robert opened Morning Dew Organic Food
Market in his hometown of St. Louis, MO. It was one of the original
natural/organic food stores in the US. Back then an extremely small
percentage of the population was beginning to understand there may be a
link between diet, health and well being, and our environment. Robert’s
early perceptions of this led him to explore a natural vegetarian diet,
macrobiotics, yoga, and organic gardening. He used the small store to
share these ideas with other people and make organic food available. In
1974, he organized the founding of the Sunshine Inn in St. Louis, one
of the early natural foods restaurants in the US, which remained open
until the late ‘90’s.
In the summer of 1984 Robert and his partner took some of their
products including soy tempeh and an early version of Rice Dream
beverage, to a natural food industry trade show. Distributors from all
over the US wanted to buy one product in particular – Rice Dream Frozen
Dessert, a non-dairy alternative to ice cream Robert had developed.
That began a long adventure of moving the small company literally out
of a small shop in the woods to Northern California, which Robert
perceived as a mecca for both agricultural resources and natural foods
consumer awareness.
Nearly 20 years later Imagine Foods makes some of the best-selling
organic and natural brands – Rice Dream, Soy Dream, Imagine Natural
Organic Soups and Broths, Power Dream Soy Energy Drinks and Soy Dream
Organic Frozen Desserts.

Founded in 1986, Santee Dairies, Inc. produces and distributes quality
dairy products for a wide range of customers from its new City of
Industry facility, which was completed in 1998. Santee's 250,000 sq.
ft. plant has fully automated dairy processing and product handling
systems.
Our dairy products begin with the delivery of fresh, raw milk directly
from farms in stainless steel tankers.
Our quality control department tests every delivery for temperature,
flavor and antibiotics before being transferred to stainless steel
holding tanks that maintain the milk at a consistent 36°f.
Next, the raw milk is separated into skim milk and cream. These two
components are later blended to produce a wide variety of standardized
dairy products. From there, the milk is tested again for butterfat
and solids content, then released for pasteurization.
Our milk is then processed, pasteurized, homogenized and fortified with
Vitamins A and D.All of our dairy products are packaged in either
plastic bottles or paper cartons, ranging in size from 16 ounces to 6
gallons.
Santee utilizes state-of-the-art Fogg filling equipment, with a
combined filling capacity in excess of 34,000 gallons per hour.
Paper gable-top cartons are filled and sealed with the most advanced
Evergreen equipment, which uses extended shelf life technology and has
the capability of applying convenient pour spouts to half-gallon
cartons. After packaging, our products are then placed in milk cases or
corrugated boxes and automatically stacked and conveyed to
our refrigerated cooler for storage and distribution

Star Kay White - Manufacturer of flavoring materials for ice cream,

Pure chocolate extract is a fat free product containing volatile "top
notes" which are lost in the processing of cocoa. It is a unique,
natural extract from a special blend of cocoa beans that contains a
well-balanced chocolate flavor. When used in any chocolate flavored
food, Chocolate Extract rounds out, fills in, and enhances the flavor

Candy and Crunch Inclusions
Our candy manufacturing focuses on toffee and crunch products. A
variety of textures, colors, and flavors are available. Examples are
English Toffee as used in Coffee Toffee, and Butter Brittle for use
where a buttery crunch is desired. Most of our toffees are all natural.
Nut Brittles are made with peanuts, cashews, almonds, or practically
any other nut meat. They have a very soft bite and are coated in
coconut oil to preserve their crunch. Red and Green mint as well as
many other flavors and colors are available.
Chocolate Coated Nuts and Candies
Some people would say that anything is better with chocolate on it. Our
state of the art panning facility is capable of coating almost any
candy or nut. Dark, milk, white, pure and compound chocolates are all
options. We also manufacture coated products with the new "low melt
chocolate".
Extracts, Jug Flavors and Colors
As a background flavor or flavor enhancer, an extract-type flavor can
be invaluable. Star Kay White has all of your basic ice cream flavors
as well as many exotics: Peppermint, chocolate (see above), coffee and
cappuccino, maple, pistachio, almond, fruit, bubble gum, cotton candy
and many more.
